If your into steam and you model true to form then you understand that most if not all steam locomotives were far from clean and shiny. I model a western setting so naturally there is a certain look that comes with a dirty locomotive from the west.

Here's the weathering process I went with for my Lionel Challenger. Most of my steam is done in a similar fashion.

BILL OF MATERIALS:
  • Rubbing alcohol 70%
  • Rubbing alcohol 91%
  • Testors Dullcoat
  • Neo-lube
  • Bragdon Enterprise weathering powders
  • Assortment of paint brushes varing in size (mainly very small)
  • Paper Towels
  • PAINT:
    • Polly Scale grimey black
    • Polly Scale aged white
    • Polly Scale grimey black
    • Polly Scale mud
    • Polly Scale concrete
HAPPY MODELING!!
